Deviation Models Revisited

چکیده

Tasks like diagnosis, failure-modes-and-effects analysis (FMEA), and therapy proposal involve reasoning about variables and parameters deviating from some reference state. In model-based systems, one tries to capture this kind of inferences by models that describe how such deviations are emerging and propagated through a system. Several techniques and systems have been developed that address this issue, in particular in the area of qualitative modeling. However, to our knowledge, a rigorous mathematical foundation and a “recipe” for how to construct such compositional deviation models has not been presented in the literature, despite the widespread use of the idea and the techniques. In this paper, we briefly revisit the concepts and use of deviation models and related techniques. We reveal (sometimes implicit) presumptions and limitations and present a general mathematical formalization of deviation models. Based on this, aspects of constructing libraries of deviation models, their properties, and their application in consistencybased diagnosis and prediction-based FMEA in a componentoriented framework are analyzed.

High level Ab inito bench mark computaions on weak interactions (H2)2 dimer revisited

The Potential Energy Surface PES of (H2)2 dimer has been investigated, using five simple rigid rotor models. These models are called: head to head, symmetric side to side, L , steplike and T model. All calculations were done at two levels of ab initio  methods: MP2(Full) and QCISD (T,Full) using cc-pVTZ basis set at singlet state of spin multiplicity. The results of scanning PES were then fitte...

Geometrization of Some Epidemic Models

Recently, the behavior of different epidemic models and their relation both to different types of geometries and to some biological models has been revisited. Path equations representing the behavior of epidemic models and their corresponding deviation vectors are examined. A comparison between paths and their deviation vectors in Riemannian and Finslerian Geometries is presented.

Water Quality Model Structure Identification Using Dynamic Linear Modeling: River Cam Case Study Revisited

This paper investigates the use of dynamic linear modeling and maximum likelihood estimator for water quality model structure identi cation. In addition to the posterior trajectories of model's parameters, the proposed method also examines the trajectory of the estimated prediction error variance. The premise is that the model predictability should be improved as we move down in a time series. ...

The anomalous effects of biased mutation revisited: mean-optimum deviation and apparent directional selection under stabilizing selection.

Empirical evidence indicates that the distribution of the effects of mutations on quantitative traits is not symmetric about zero. Under stabilizing selection in infinite populations with normally distributed mutant effects having a nonzero mean, Waxman and Peck showed that the deviation of the population mean from the optimum is expected to be small. We show by simulation that genetic drift, l...

Asymptotics of the Eulerian Numbers Revisited: a Large Deviation Analysis

Using the Saddle point method and multiseries expansions, we obtain from the generating function of the Eulerian numbers An,k and Cauchy’s integral formula, asymptotic results in non-central region. In the region k = n −nα, 1 >α> 1/2, we analyze the dependence of An,k on α. This paper fits within the framework of Analytic Combinatorics.
